Animals Hold Up After Blaze

ANIMALS in the fire-ravaged Wollondilly Shire have survived well, according to the region's head ranger.

"We understand four sheep died as a result of the fires on Sunday, all in the Lakesland area (west of Picton)," Rural Lands Protection Board managing ranger Andrew Glover said.

"We were worried about the welfare of some 7000 laying hens in a shed at Mowbray Park ... there was no electricity for the feeders so we had to organise generators.

"We have had to move quite a few cattle and horses because there is no food or water at their lodgings.

"A lot of fencing was damaged ... probably the biggest problem now is going to be animals getting out."
