AS 2740 – 2001 Wedge Type Sockets
AS 2740 – 2001 Wedge Type Sockets specifies requirements for general purpose wedge-type sockets.It does not cover wedge-type sockets—(a) of welded construction;(b) for special purpose applications; or(c) where installed in lift installations.
PREFACE
This Standard was prepared by the Standards Australia Committee ME-025, Lifting Tackle, to supersede AS 2740—1984, Lifting tackle—Wedge-type sockets.
The objective of this Standard is to promote the safe use of wedge-type sockets. This edition includes the following changes:
- (a) The bolt hole in the body of the wedge socket is no longer required.
- (b) The term ‘safe working load’ has been deleted.
- (c) The angle of the wedge and the socket body are aligned to overseas practices.
- (d) Provision is made for establishing the efficiency of ropes with a grade of more than 1770 grade IWRC.
Statements expressed in mandatory terms in notes to tables are deemed to be requirements of this Standard.
