Chain Block Examination Checklist

EXAMINATION CHECKLIST: CHAIN BLOCK

  • CHECK HOOKS, SUSPENSION AND LOAD

    Corrosion, cracks, damage, distortion, throat opening, security of attachment points and sub-structure, fasteners, welds, safety latches, full or partial seizure of rotating components, etc.

  • CHECK BLOCK BODY

    Corrosion, cracks, damage, distortion, wear, security of attachment and sub-structures, fasteners, welds, etc.

  • CHECK MARKINGS

    Presence, accuracy and condition of markings.

  • CHECK DEAD END ANCHORAGE

    Corrosion, cracks, damage, distortion, elongation, wear, un-removable deposit, security of attachment points and sub-structures.

  • CHECK LOAD CHAIN

    Corrosion, damage, distortion, elongation, wear, deposits that cannot be removed, links articulate freely, increase in gauge length, interlink wear, adequacy of lubrication and security of attachment points.

  • CHECK HAND CHAIN

    Corrosions, cracks, damage, distortion, elongation, wear deposits that cannot be remove and links articulate freely.

  • CHECK HOIST MECHANISM

    Brake, pinions, gearbox and bearings; e.g. alignment, corrosion, crack, damage, distortion, wear, adequacy of lubrication, mode of operation, full or partial seizure of rotating components, chain feed smoothly into and away from the load wheel, functionality and mode of operation.
