EXAMINATION CHECKLIST: POWER OPERATED HOISTS

  • CHECK HOOKS, SUSPENSION & LOAD

    Corrosion, cracks, damage, distortion, throat opening, security of attachment points and sub-structures, fasteners, welds, full and partial seizure of rotating components, safety latches, etc.

  • CHECK HOIST STRUCTURE

    Corrosion, cracks, damage, distortion, wear, security of attachment points and sub-structures, fasteners, welds, etc.

  • CHECK MARKINGS

    Presence, accuracy and condition of markings.

  • CHECK HOIST MECHANISM including motor, brake, couplings, gearbox, drum, chain, wheel and bearings.

    Alignment, corrosion, cracks, damage, distortion, wear, adequacy of lubrication, functionality and mode of operation, full or partial seizure of rotating components, lifting media fit (i.e rope, chain, etc,) etc.

  • CHECK ELECTRICAL CONTROL PANEL & WIRING

    Functionality and mode of operation, insulation, continuity, security of electrical connections

  • CHECK OPERATOR CONTROLS

    Functionality and mode of operation, insulation, continuity, security of connections, cracks, damage, distortion, wear, etc.

  • CHECK WIRE ROPE(S) & CHAIN(S) including terminations and anchorages, guides, sheaves/pins, bearings.

    Wire ropes: corrosion, cracks damage, distortion, wear, kinks, broken wires, adequacy of lubrication, rope fit, reeving, specification and condition, Chain: Corrosion, cracks, damage, distortion, elongation, wear and deposits that cannot be removed, links articulate freely, increase in gauge length, interlink wear. Terminations and anchorages: full or partial seizure of rotating components, safety latches, security of attachment points and sub-structures, fasteners, welds, anchorages, etc.

  • CHECK POWER FEED SYSTEM, ELECTRIC, PNEUMATIC, HYDRAULIC

    Functionality and mode of operation, security of hose / wire connections, where applicable, leaks, etc.

  • CHECK LIFTING MEDIA

    Corrosion, cracks, damage, distortion, wear, kinks, broken wires, lubrication, fit, reeving, specification and condition, full or partial seizure of rotating components, safety latches, security of attachment points and sub-structures, fasteners, welds, etc.

  • CHECK RCI / RCL DEVICES

    Functionality and mode of operation, calibration, etc.
